Okay, I was told that the computer (a netbook) that was recommended to me we totally inappropriate for college so I need help please.
I’m looking for a notebook-type laptop if possible and about €400. I’d prefer one that comes with XP home edition not vista.
and I can’t stress it enough that i do not want a dell or a mac (though with the price I’m aware I couldn’t afford a mac anyway)
I’m going to be doing a course that deals with English and media so no business-y stuff required.
I know this question is all over the place but I’ve looked on the net and in shops and no one has actually told me what I need (though it’s totally possible I’ve been looking in all the wrong places)
Any advice welcome.
Thank you!

I need a laptop or notebook for:
Connecting to the internet (facebook, youtube, wordpress, bbc iplayer etc)
MSN (So I need a webcam)
Microsoft word (and reasonable memory space for essays and short stories)
iTunes (but I don’t mind if I have a laptop/ notebook without
I want one that I can take around with me easily but one that’s not slow to load and I won’t have to open task manager every other day.
The battery life has to be more than 2.5 hours on the internet and I should be able to maybe insert disks (not essential). Also I’d like it in a nice blue, green or pink colour.
It has to be less than £270, too.
I’ve already looked at:
Toshiba NB200 n280 and n270
That tiny little VAIO one that’s ridiculously priced
And I like the look of the dell inspiron mini 10v but apparently the battery life is disappointing. I either want a notebook or a small laptop.
Thanks so much!

That is the laptop i am considering. i will need it for:
general internet browsing
downloading video and audio files
general PC tasks
to run an xbox live account through
in-built webcam
THats mainly it, i dont need it for online gaming etc. so dont care about graphics card and stuff but would like to it to run smoothly and boot up quickly.
Please can someone who knows what there talking about rate this against other laptops in the £379 price range and take into account a in-built webcam is key.
I do not want windows vista because I have been told it is not compatable with two programs I use every day, so i am looking for a new laptop with windows xp and not having any luck. the only ones I have found are mini notebooks, not what I want at all. I like a bigger screen. anyone know where to get a new one with windows xp on?
Hey guys
Just wondering what the best laptop/notebooks are at the moment that are under £400? I’m pretty clued up on the whole PC jargon so i know what i want, but there seems to be alot of competitive laptops out there at the moment, all rivalling the same capacity as each other.
I was looking at the Asus EEE 1000 purely because of its immense battery life, but at the same price i could buy another laptop that would double CPU GHZ as well as RAM and hard drive capacity so I’m totally stuck.
I won’t be using it for anything then e-mailing/yahoo/msn and the like so i would appreciate your feedback.
Many thanks!
I recently bought an advent 9115 notebook/laptop. I was wondering is it just me who is having problems or is any one else struggling to run games on it? I cant run games and the wireless land card is not functioning. Ive installed all the drivers and needed disks. It is currently running on vista and it can sucsessfully conect to the internet, if that helps with any answers.
Answers much appreciated

My Compaq laptop has a configuration of Pentium dual core , 2GB ram, 160 gb. Im using a reliance wireless broadband connection and the speed is very very very slow! . When checking out the wireless device on other laptops the speed is considerably fast. Im not expertised in this field so might not use technical terms. Do I have to upgrade the speed of my laptop? To what extent, so that my net speed is fast?
