Can you use a notebook/laptop on your knees?

Or do you have to have it on a hard surface?
Thanks

You can but in my opinion you should not as it block the cooling ducts.

You can use it on any surface, but it needs to be able to stay cool. For example, a nice hard desk is always fine, but a couch or something fabric would be bad because the laptop sinks down into it and it can’t ventilate the heat and the cloth keeps it warm. It should be fine on your knees, but if it starts to get hot, turn it off or put it on something hard. My laptop is a little old and now I put it on some jenga bricks or something so it can ventilate better. If they get too hot, they’ll go into thermal shutdown and it just turns itself off instantly to protect the processor and other parts of the computer.

Yes, but you will need asbestos skin, it get’s hot!! A flat surface and a good chair are better for your posture, you tend to get a little screwed up without these and it will give you back pain eventually
    Be careful. :0)

Sorry you guys, I guess we all typed together… Helpful aren’t we..:0)

    yes

as i am typing this i have my laptop on my knees, just make sure that its not likely to slide off and you’re fine. Also make sure that the laptops vents aren’t blocked to prevent the laptop from overheating and shutting itself off

yes you can but you should really use a hard surface like a book or a table because ur knees can block the air ducts.

Most laptops have a fan underneath that lets all the hot air escape…

When i put my laptop on my lap, i keep a flat cardboard box underneath and keep both on my lap so that it has a hard surface so the air can escape.

If you just keep it on your lap, your lap will get quite hot, and i’ve watched on Richard & Judy that it can be quite harmful if men put theirs on their laps too much.

In other terms, my laptop is so darn heavy that i struggle to keep hold of it for too long, usually use it on the bed!

I use my laptop whilst sitting in my favourite armchair and with it sitting on a round toughened glass table in front of me. You can get them quite cheaply and it can be pulled in close so that you can type easily at the right level. This way you’re legs don’t get hot, and the laptop purrs away happily. Why not give it a try. Alf

Basically, you can use. Although i recommend to avoid using it on a surface which is rubbish. I do use on knees, but i keep either the Laptop box , or a pad underneath it as to pass the heat and keep the system cool :)

no, the police come round arresting you if you have your laptop on you lap…
the only problem would be air circulation – the fans wouldn’t be able to take in enough air to keep the unit at a working temperature – overheating can cause problems!

Yes of course you can use in your lap if you want to seriously want to overheat it! What do you think?
